Scruffy's Quilt Gallery

Peninsula International Quilt Festival (PIQF) 2009 - Santa Clara, California

PIQF 2009 was incredible!  The intricacy and creativity of the quilts on display were phenomenal.  We met many new friends and enjoyed several amusing quilting stories. The show was so successful for us as a vendor that I unfortunately had very little time to explore.  However, I was able to snap a few photos on my way to the restroom and snack bar.  Fortunately, Linda Hibbert's outstanding paper pieced and applique "Best in Show, All Breed AKC" dog quilts were in the aisle directly behind our booth, so I was able to sneak away periodically to enjoy them.  Kathleen Harmon's "Dark Side of the Moon" combined strips n curves, New York beauty and mariner's compass techniques for a stunning effect.  Patt Blair's whimsical "Spring Break" utilizes the technique of pigment inks on cotton to capture the newly hatched baby ostrich and its mama.  We also enjoyed Linda Hibbert's paper pieced "Walk in the Woods".  Further down you can see our booth, which proudly displays several of Debby's artistic quilts.  Debby and Anne did a fabulous job and we all thoroughly enjoyed the show.  Nina, Jan, Andrew and Greg were also key contributors to our success (perhaps we'll have pictures of them next time).

Diane's Memory Quilt Marie's First Dino Quilt

Diane escapes the baking heat of Blythe, California by making memory quilts.  The quilt shown above is one of her most recent creations.  One of her other creations (not shown here) was a memory quilt to honor her mom who passed away in January 2003.  The quilt included pictures of her  mom and blocks made from her clothing.  She received a second place ribbon at the Blythe Fair.  What a great tribute to her mom!

Marie, Edie's friend and Scruffy's pal from North Wales, Pennsylvania, made this sensational quilt for her grandson.  After assembling Scruffy's Dino of the Month Quilt Kit (see below), she liked the results so much that she used Scruffy's Dino Quilt pattern as a guide, substituting her fabrics and adding her own creative modifications of the blocks.

Bonnie's Christmas Koala Tablerunner
Edie's First Dino Quilt

Bonnie volunteers in a Koala hospital in Caboolture, Australia.  She is is a winner of Scruffy's Shopping Spree and a cherished penpal.  One day, out of the blue, this lovely tablerunner arrived at Scruffy's doorstep just in time for the holidays.  What a delightful surprise!  Scruffy was so excited to show off Bonnie's tablerunner that he began planning his Quilt Gallery right then and there!

Edie, Scruffy's pal from North Wales, Pennsylvania, made this adorable quilt for her grandson.  She used Scruffy's Dino of the Month Quilt Kit.  She liked the results so much that she bought more fabric and made another one (see below)!  Edie and her friend Marie (see below) gave Scruffy lots of feedback along the way, which helped Scruffy perfect his pattern.  Thanks so much, Edie and Marie!  (click picture to see kit)
